Solana’s eyes fluttered open slowly, ears swiveling until they recognized the echo of thunder in the distance. It was soon smothered by the sound of rain, pattering in such a rhythm that she was quickly relaxed again. Her body and mind settled, further comforted by the warmth of…
The warmth of…
Solana suddenly became conscious of her surroundings. Her head was resting on Venith’s chest, pressed against her heartbeat. She could feel the rise and fall of Loligo’s breathing behind her, trapping her in a gentle, satisfied harmony. She became vividly aware of both of their bodies, how they were entangled with her ow

Carte Blanche - NNWM Day 1
"I'm serious; there's a little girl waiting for you in your office."
"Come on, man. We don't encourage little kids to solve their problems through violence." Brossard laughed, emptying another paper cup. "Most of the time."
He went to grab another paper cup, but stopped himself. How many cups did he waste during this one outing? A lot was his closest guess. On slow days, he'd spend half of his time by the water cooler, wasting as many cups as humanly possible just out of boredom. It probably wasn't healthy, especially considering that the building was practically one huge aquarium; whoever refilled this water cooler was probably so spiteful

Elliot Andeville is Going to Hell - Chapter 3
Elliot came to more quickly than he had liked, shuddering at the sensation of a hand on his face. He heard the figure speak to him in a low voice, but he couldn’t wrap his mind around what it was saying before he passed out again.
The second time, he was being carried back through the hallway, too burnt out to think anything of it. More tired than faint, he thoughtlessly rested his head against the figure’s chest and let himself sleep.
The third time, he heard muddled voices and the pain in his head was much duller. His eyes fluttered open, showing him all of his winterwear laid out in front of a fireplace.
“That coul

Much to Brossard's simultaneous relief and disbelief, Ceceliese was sitting right there at the bar, idly chatting away with a girl who sported reptilian features.
"It's about goddamn time." He sighed, virtually all of the stress flowing out of his system.
"So " Dechesne spoke up again, "Do we talk to her or something?"
"Nah." Brossard allowed himself to collapse into one of the randomly placed beanbags. How long it had been since he last saw one was beyond him, but he remembered they were his secret guilty pleasure back when he was a kid. They were just so damn fun. Clearly lacking a proper childhood, Dechesne vied for a simple (a

"Well, if she's the kind of person who randomly ages up at night and associates with beings like these I wouldn't judge a book by its cover. Nothing seems to make sense around here, anyways. These days, I don't think it'd be that unbelievable for a freaky little girl to scratch together that kind of money as long as she has connections." Dechesne reasoned.
"Guess you've got a point. I'm sure her older form gets plenty of cash, too." Brossard joked, complete with a witty snap.
"Oh, Brossard, you dog."
And lo, there was much sarcastic laughter! By much I mean it lasted about a second.
"Center of the universe, huh?" Brossard mused

Unable to hold it back anymore, Brossard attempted to reduce that douchey face to an unrecognizable mess of blood - a far more attractive alternative, in his opinion - only to find that he was unable to move his arm. Relying on his non-dominant right hand instead, he swung at him and ended up frozen mid-swing. He twitched, despising these weird psychic types with every ounce of his being.
"Picking fights, too? You're definitely new. Cute, very cute, but entirely inappropriate." The stranger laughed, his voice grating on Brossard's nerves. Dechesne made a subtle movement toward his pocket, but otherwise devoted the entirety of his attention

Confused but aware that Brossard probably knew what he was doing, Dechesne looked down at his watch.
"5:42 AM, right on the dot. Why do you ask?"
Brossard let his muscles relax, finally feeling the success of a mission accomplished setting in.
"She's a little girl during the day, right? I'm guessing she ran off because she's aware of that. I don't really know how the process works, but she probably wouldn't want to be hanging around there when the transformation or whatever started." He explained.
"Makes sense." Dechesne stretched, beginning the walk back to the car. "So, that's it, then? That's all we have to do?"
"Guess so." Bros

Everything was a sloppy blur, as if someone had dumped buckets upon buckets of water on the painting that was his life. Noises came through to him as if his ears were plugged up tight, and feelings were dull and distant. Thousands of eyes from unrecognizable, shapeless masses stared down at him, all politely standing aside to allow the mint-citrus figure to tower over him. A woman's voice reached him as a meaningless mumble, the context and tone impossible to pick out. Some eyes flickered in and out, their attention toward him variable and seemingly entirely dependent on the woman's words.
Something in this strange world came unhinged at t

"You're kidding." Brossard thought out loud, looking at an equally flabbergasted Dechesne. Ceceliese actually looked a little offended, although those blankets mostly obscured the pouty look on her face.
"Did you really doubt me that much? I'm not the kind of person that makes promises and then doesn't follow through on them." she muttered, sinking deeper and deeper into her protective covering.
"Whoa, whoa, I didn't mean it like that. It's just...well, come on. You're just a little kid. I know you've got all this supernatural shit going on, but how the hell did you get all of this cash?" he asked, mind still boggled.
"You have your se

"No. I don't care. I ask for your help one time and you act like we're best friends or something. Don't you have anything else to do with your life?"
Silence.
"You still depend on us, though." Shizelle reminded that voice, letting her tone get a little darker. "We're not mutually exclusive, you know."
"Get out." That voice spoke up the second Shizelle closed her mouth, pointing back over at the door. Sighing as dramatically as possible, Shizelle stood up and walked over to the door, turning back around when she reached it.
"I'll keep you updated, anyway! I'm sure you'll want to know all about it!"

Quite satisfied, Brossard followed the hippobug to the other side of the room, with Dechesne following only a bit more hesitantly. Although this hippo insect thing seemed nice enough, that didn't change the fact that it was still a hippo insect thing. Just looking at it made him feel uncomfortable, if only because the concept of its existence violated pretty much every law of nature he ever knew.
Finally, the moment of truth. The camouflaged door opened up wide, revealing a long hallway (it was so long that seeing all the way to the end was impossible) lined with even more doors. Each door was completely unique; one door couldn't be mistak
